Project: Investigation of Soil & Groundwater and Remedial Action Plan
Description:
In accordance with the requirements of a CTDEP Consent Order, extensive soil
and groundwater investigations were performed to determine the presence and
extent of petroleum and metals contamination at the site. The investigation
included the review of historical documentation and data from the previous
investigations, as well as other area sites that could impact the site. A
Remedial Investigation Plan was prepared for, and submitted to and approved by
the CTDEP based on the review.
The investigation included the installation of soil borings and groundwater
monitoring wells to further delineate the extent of contamination in the
surficial soils and aquifer, and determine whether the soil must be removed, or
can be capped in place with a vapor extraction system installed to reduce the
volatile organic and petroleum concentrations in the soil. Upon completion of
the investigation, a detailed report was prepared, with specific recommendations
and a schedule for additional investigation and remediation at the site, and
submitted to the CTDEP for approval.
