Project: Investigation of Soil & Groundwater and Remedial Action Plan
Description:
In accordance with the requirements of a CTDEP Consent Order, extensive soil
and groundwater investigations were performed to determine the presence and
extent of petroleum and metals contamination at the site, and determine the
impact from the immediately up-gradient Old Southington Landfill Superfund site
which included chlorinated solvents. The investigation included the review of
historical documentation and data from the landfill investigations, as well as
other area investigations, to determine potential areas of impact on the site,
the installation of numerous test pits and soil borings, along with sampling
surface waters and existing monitoring wells installed during the landfill
investigations. Upon completion of each stage of the investigation, detailed
reports were prepared, with specific recommendations, and submitted to the CTDEP
for approval of the report and next phase of work. A remedial action plan,
including a 3D drawing of the contaminated areas, was prepared and approved by
the CTDEP. The selected remedial alternative included the use of enzyme enhanced
bioremediation for the contaminated soils.
