Project: Investigation of Fuel Contamination
Description:
Performed an investigation of the source and extent of No. 2 fuel oil
contamination and on site supervision for the removal of a leaking 1,000 gallon
underground storage tank and excavation of severely contaminated soil. The
excavation process was screened using an HNu photoionization meter to determine
the amount of total Volatile Organics (VOC) in the soil and to determine the
limits of excavation. Confirming samples were taken for analysis of VOC (EPA
Method 8010/8020) and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TPH). The house on one side
limited the excavation, therefore, a trench soil vent system was installed
adjacent to the foundation footing to remove elevated levels of VOC along the
foundation.
A Connecticut Department of Health Services approved dual activated carbon
filter system was installed on the potable water well due to low levels of TPH
contamination. A detailed report of all investigations, analytical findings,
remedial action plans, and remediation implementation was prepared for the
client and the CTDEP.
