Environmental Services: Storage Tank Management Cont.

Tank Evaluation and Testing

DES has incorporated many scientific methods to determine tank integrity. These methods will identify leaking tanks, heavily corroded tanks, and those tanks which can be saved. The test methods provided by DES meet all current EPA and local requirements. DES has access to several test methods to take advantage of their different capabilities. In the process of prioritizing tanks for replacement, we look at more than just tank age. Many older tanks have been found to be in better condition than those of younger age, due to their environment.

As an added tool to assess the presence of contamination around a tank site, DES utilizes various levels of photo-ionization and chromatography equipment to conduct Soil Gas Surveys. These surveys are very useful in determining the presence of contaminants. Although the survey normally detects any hydrocarbons, such as from spills, it is still very useful to identify problems.

Tank System Design

DES' Engineers, working in cooperation with seasoned field personnel, have developed standard design packages for underground and aboveground tank facilities. Depending on the environmental sensitivity of the area and the client, DES incorporates a proper configuration of state-of-the-art controls and sensing devices into each project.

We utilize only proven equipment in our designs. Each design provides maximum reliability with the minimum cost. All designs are prepared to meet EPA and local regulations and the NFPA-30 (National Fire Protection Association Code).

Drawings are produced from our Auto-Cad software which enables us to incorporate field changes easily. If required, plans and specifications can be stamped by our Professional Engineers. Our engineering personnel have extensive experience presenting plans to Zoning Departments, Wetlands Commissions, and Funding agencies.

DES' designs represent years of accumulated field experience with UST/AST systems. The experience makes our designs responsible to all regulatory demands and yet they can be constructed at a reasonable cost by qualified contractors.

Construction Management

DES provides complete Construction Management services for projects we design as well as other designs. Our goal is to ensure that all work conforms to specifications and that the clients get 100% of their investment.

Each project is assigned and experienced field inspector who has years of experience on UST/AST projects as well as other types of construction jobs. Our inspectors oversee the entire
project acting as liaison between owners, building officials, and state officials. The inspector is there on behalf of the owners and keeps them informed at all times.

DES' years of experience with all types of UST/AST projects offers the client unparalleled confidence that their fuel system will operate reliably and present an absolute minimum of environmental risk.

Remediation

DES augments the UST/AST staff by providing expertise when contaminated soil or water are encountered. DES' staff of environmental professionals ensure that all regulatory requirements are met and documented.
